Christopher Ellis, 17, of Oakham, died in the accident which happened on the A6003 near Caldecott at 4.10am.
The Rutland College student was a passenger in a burgundy Citroen Saxo, which was travelling from Uppingham towards Caldecott. The vehicle left the road and was in collision with a road sign.
